I mean, it has some horrible issues, but it's nice to play against people who mostly have the same skill as you. However, i'd imagine that once you get high enough, there really isn't a way to keep the bad ass guys out. I know that in some of my social skirmish games, i've seen guys who would be called professionals. Each team had one and everything in the game revolved around them. That isn't fun, nor is it teamwork.

I totally agree though, that is one thing that keeps me from playing TF2 on the 360. I am decent at that game but there is always some asshole who can out rocket me. (I hate that guy).

There has to be a way to improve on the Halo 3 matchmaking system. I think though, the only issue might just be geography and number of players. I'd rather play against a champion than a guy in South Africa, slowing the whole game down.

The stuff about professionalization taking away fr...

The stuff about professionalization taking away from the spirit of play is really poignant for me. If you look at a sport, you'll see that no matter how professional it becomes there's always a field somewhere that you can go to and play a pickup game with your friends or family, amateurs and dabblers. But with videogaming, there is actually already an international infrastructure built for the purposes of playing competitively for cash. It's not as prominent here as in Germany or Korea, but it's getting there.

Here's the problem: you never have to worry in a pickup game of soccer that a striker from Arsenal is going to show up and ruin the fun. But with Halo 3 or Killzone 2 or CoD4, it's likely that 4 games out of 5 I will run into a group of people who play competitively and thus ruin the fun for anyone who doesn't. This is a major problem that a lot of online games haven't figured out.

Maybe we need something like an online videogaming Olympic committee, separating the professionals from the amateurs from the regular gamers from the noobs?
